Rani Rang (The Queen's Pink)
A nostalgic mirror on life, love and the alchemy of human desire; a poetic sigh for an age gone by - Rani Rang (The Queen's Pink) is a short film that echoes and lingers.
As a meditative journey into life, love and the tragedy of human failings, Rani Rang is a lyrical whisper dipped in sepia.
--------------------------------------------
This is the early '70s - the young Shekhar grapples with issues of independence, time, transposition, and all the purported textures that come with it. A small, chance encounter with a strikingly mysterious woman turns to infatuation, slowly morphing into a flood-laden ocean of desire – flood of colours, flood of emotions, flood of human touch. His portrait of idealised, romantic, perfect love takes place though in a world that is far gone from perfect...
A montage, a mood-piece, a fragrance, a flood... Rani Rang stirs the sediments of human soul and skin.

He has collaborated in the making of other documentaries, training films and corporate films as creative advisor, together with being a scriptwriter and voice over artist. Dasgupta has an accomplished career in theatre as a director of distinction, having dabbled in the art for close to three decades now.
His deep interest in the past, combined with his fascination with the Andaman Islands, resulted in his book on the Japanese occupation of the South Andamans during WWII – published by Manas Publications, Delhi in 2002.
Dasgupta’s abiding interest in world cinema and his passion for the written word have culminated in ‘Rani Rang’ – an adaptation of a short story of his titled ‘Lilac’. He is currently working towards fulfilling his passion project – a period drama that delves into one of Indian history’s most intriguing chapters. He lives in the city of Poona.
