I was born in a rapidly increasing economy in China. With the influence of Western culture and dissolving conventional Chinese culture, I try to recognize who I am and how to connect with others. I have painted, acted on the stage, and directed drama plays. In the end, I chose film to be my art medium.
In The Screenwriter In The Restroom (2015), I placed the screenwriter in the same situation as me. In fact, I came up with the idea of this film in the restroom. I wondered what would happen to a screenwriter when he has no ideas about what to write. I leave the question to the audience, whether it is good or bad for a screenwriter to steal ideas from people in the restroom.
To sum up, my past unstable 25 years of life leads me to discuss humanity and social issues in my art works. Based on this point, I keep observing myself and readjusting myself to adapt to the environment which I live in. Only art can connect me to others, and solve questions about myself and society. Art also decreases my loneliness, and it stimulates me to pursue the freedom of spirit.
