Stranded
The Solent is a strip of water that lies between the Isle of Wight and the rest of the UK. It is known as one of the most expensive channels in the world due to its large shipping port in Southampton, where daily traffic of cargo ships and cruse liners stop to unload and restock. The Solent can be a burden as its wealth has created borders between island residents and the mainland, as ferry prices are expensive for many people living on the Island. The montage I have created shows that how living on an island can be an isolating experience, not only because the expense of traveling off the island is high but the idea that the Isle of Wight is dependent on the mainland to deliver power and fuel through cables and pipes lying underneath the sea bed, which makes the island feel closed off and separate. Through the montage we can get an island residents perspective of how dethatched the Isle of Wight is to the rest of the UK and how only the wealthy can cross the Solent regularly. By using techniques to create a feeling of entrapment for the audience by portraying the upper class as monsters.
