Myra Su is a narrative artist based in Chicago specializing in storytelling through puppetry and live theater. Her primary medium is puppetry, though it is a category that she interprets broadly across multiple media -- paper craft, sculpture, video, animation, and most recently, amateur taxidermy. Growing up in-between the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, she is interested in using puppetry to convey stories that are culturally mobile and emotionally universal. Her work is usually driven by a simple concept or motif, which is then experimented through a self-reflexive application of puppetry.
In addition to her independent work, she is a co-curator for Chicago's quarterly puppet slam: Nasty, Brutish & Short. She is also a touring puppeteer with Manual Cinema, a shadow puppet company.
Myra holds a BA with honors in Theater and Anthropology from the University of Chicago.
