During filming the cast and crew got a glimpse of the very real issue of cell phones and mobile devices and how “Connected” we are to them. This sparked a discussion about how connected we are to our devices and yet we are disconnected from family, moral values and God.
Tuned In is relevant and timely in society today as it explores issues of teens being connected to social media and their electronic devices but not connected to family and other personal relationships.
Society seems to be oblivious to the fact that there is an issue with a generation that will not look up from their electronic mobile devices. The majority of the population, under the age of forty check their smart phones compulsively, especially teens and the twenty something generation. Yet these same people are becoming less and less connected through personal relationships to family and friends.
Cell phones are this powerful computer that gives us constant information; the new, the interesting and unpredictable. We feel rewarded with every Facebook post, text and new tweet. It’s like a drug and as with any drug over time, overuse can be destructive. It isolates us from the world around us.
These are the issues and themes that Emma deals with as she takes her journey from being grounded from electronic devices and as her parents attempt to teach her about personal relationships.
