Aakruti is a short documentary film based on the true story of Aakruti Patel who underwent Sex Reassignment Surgery in the year 2015. Aakruti is the first person to successfully undergo Sex Reassignment Surgery in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.

The film shows the struggle and opposition faced by Aakruti from the society and her own family. Aakruti's determination and courage leads to the transformation she always desired. Her story is an inspiration for us to celebrate the womanhood.

Director Biography - Sharvari Raval

I have been working as independent documentary filmmaker and photographer on projects with great diversity.

Since 2012, I have worked on 29 documentary films and have edited 1 documentary film. Aakruti is my 31st Documentary film, which is the first one that is self produced.

I have Master’s Degree in Commerce, but I was always inclined towards development sector, which I choose as my career. After working on projects with great diversity in development sector, I decided to follow my passion in filmmaking and photography.

One of the films directed in North East India was screened in ARGE Film Festival, Vienna, Austria on 10 December 2014. Also, I have received 4 awards and recognition for my contribution as Photographer.
