Roxy Shih is a Taiwanese-American producer and director. She brings a creatively versatile aspect to her work and has worked with many independent companies both overseas and domestically. She has produced a plethora of feature films to music videos, series, commercials, online content and radio.
A couple of companies she has collaborated during her career so far are MTV, Black Dog, Anthem Films, Rock the Web (China), Clevver TV, MNET, and Defy Media. She has also contributed her skills in creating docu-series and shorts for charities and non-profit organizations. Roxy was one of ten chosen for the prestigious Armed With A Camera fellowship in 2011 and received a grant to direct a short film, Play Time, that premiered at the DGA and went on a successful film festival tour internationally. She has had her work shown at an array of festivals such as The LA Asian Pacific Film Festival, SXSW, Toronto Independent, and Dances with Films.
Roxy recently completed her directorial feature film The Tribe, starring the illustrious Jessica Rothe (Parallels, La La Land), Anne Winters (Wicked City, Tyrant) and Michael Nardelli (The Collection). In her spare time Roxy also acts on the side, recently appearing in the supporting role of the well received festival feature (which she also produced), Seahorses, as the role of the mouthy and loyal Jackie. Seahorses will have a week long theatrical engagement at the Arena Cinema in Hollywood starting January 8th, 2016. She also hosts her own radio show, Filmmakers Corner and guest hosts for the online web show Actors Entertainment and Actors Reporter.
I was always intrigued by the idea of having a small tangible world with a really grand concept- my team and I were able to make it come alive for The Tribe. Merging these two elements together to create something visually familiar but chillingly strange. The idea of seeing what human beings would do to each other, with the best of intentions, is such an interesting psychosocial study I was able to play with in this semi-fictional realm... where this reality has a chance of actually happening in the near future.
I really hope that this film appeals to both a commercial and independent audience, that it challenges the audience to think deeper about how us as human beings can change the course of nature and how we make ourselves both the destroyer and savior of our destinies.
