Kelvin Edwards is an independent filmmaker currently residing in Charlotte, N.C., who does not enjoy referring to himself in third person, so I’ll continue in first.
As a kid, I was always passionate about arts and crafts, physical activities, video games, or anything that opposed a system of authority. Little did I know, this was the perfect concoction for an independent filmmaker, but of course; This job field was not really popular in the early 90’s. I digress.
Raised partly in Charleston and Columbia, SC, I soon graduated from Dreher High School and joined the U.S. Navy seven months later. After serving five years as a Mass Communication Specialist, I attended the Art Institute of Charlotte, graduating in 2014 with a Bachelors of Arts in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production. Since graduating, I have completed an array of projects including everything from interviews and music videos, to documentaries and short narratives.
Although I mostly enjoy cinematography and directing, I have a strong understanding and skill set pertaining to the whole of the art.
Overall, I love how every project brings something new to the table, allowing me to access a new part of myself. I love watching a simple idea transform into a tangible experience. I simply love what I do.
I believe the greatest attribute of film is its constant evolution. This is why it’s my personal mission to step outside the box.
I create films with the aim of challenging the status quo, while making something people can enjoy, challenge, and/or relate to.
