Freya set up BoyandBearFilms in 2014 to realise personal film projects. She has since completed ‘experimental musical' BREAD AND BUTTER, a collaboration with Composer Jennifer Bell, short experimental/drama NOT WAVING, staring Peter Bowles for IShorts/Creative England and the documentary HOW? LUCKY filmed over 4x years in Finetown Township, SA. Prior to this she made the BAFTA-Shortlisted WINDOW SHOPPING staring Pedro Pascal and Anson Mount.
Freya is a Fulbright Scholar and Fellow of Syracuse University, NY where she completed her MFA in Fine Art Film. She is Programme Leader at UWE_FILM, Bristol having previously run Film Production at the Uni of Glos for 5 years. She was awarded a HEA National Teaching Fellowship in 2015, is on the Executive Board for NAHEMI, the Board of Directors at IFA Bologna and is the current External Examiner for the National Film and Television School.
Between 2010 and 2012 she developed and taught film workshops for Actor/Director David Morrissey’s charity C.A.S.T (The Creative Arts Schools Trust) working in refugee camps in Tyre, Lebanon and townships outside Johannesburg in South Africa. Previously she has worked as an Editor on documentaries for BBC4, BBC2 and the Open University and as a Post Production Supervisor for BBC Drama (Babyfather, Outside the Rules and The Whistle-Blower)
