Giancarlo Fusi was born in the Dominican Republic, the country that seems to sprout as many Major League Baseball players as plantains. But he grew up in New Jersey on a steady diet of American sitcoms and horror flicks. A knee injury kept him from his first dream of being first baseman for the New York Yankees so he shifted his focus to the equally impossible dream of becoming a Hollywood film director and moved to Los Angeles after being awarded the UCLA Phyllis Gebauer Scholarship in Writing for diverse writers in 2012. In the fall of 2014, he joined the first cohort of Mount Saint Mary University’s new Master of Fine Arts in Film & Television program on the historic backlot of Sunset Las Palmas Studios. He completed a Certificate in TV Drama Writing from the UCLA Film & Television Summer Institute in 2016 and later graduated with a MFA in Film & TV degree from Mount Saint Mary’s in 2017. He's been a mentor for the Young Storyteller's Script-to-Stage program teaching screenwriting to 5th graders from underprivileged L.A. neighborhoods and worked as a development assistant at a top boutique literary agency in Beverly Hills. He has won 33 awards to date for his screenwriting, most recently the Writers Residency at the Bahamas International Film Festival where he was personally mentored by the legendary Roger Corman. In his spare time, Giancarlo enjoys binge-watching Netflix & purge-writing TV shows.
"There's nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein."
- Legendary sportswriter Red Smith
