8-Count is a short dance film series program presented by Toronto's Premiere International Dance Festival, Fall for Dance North (FFDN) www.ffdnorth.com

8-Count is in its third year of showcasing national and international dancemakers and filmmakers producing new, elevated short dance films.

The third edition of 8-Count will be presented this fall as part of Fall for Dance North's special 10th Year Anniversary Season.

The 8-Count open call application is now live until July 8. Films will be assessed by an esteemed Selection Committee.

8-Count's official lineup of films will be publicly released, and successful applicants will be reached out to, in August 2024.

Awards & Prizes

Each film officially selected for 8-Count 2024 will receive a $700 CAD honourarium.

Rules & Terms

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Our selection committee will select between 6-9 short dance films from those submitted. Only filmmakers whose films have been officially selected will be reached out to.

We are looking for:

Local, national and international work
From emerging to professional dancemakers
Films that have not premiered as part of a festival in Toronto before September 29, 2024
3-15 minutes in length
Produced in 2022 or later

Films that:

Portray the art form of performance dance using film in an innovative way
Tell an important story through film with dance as a major element to the story
Films that features dance choreography that is integral to the vision of the film
Short conceptual dance films

Not eligible:

Commercial music videos
Documentary shorts with no dancing element or choreography
Feature length dance films

SUBMISSION FEES & FINANCES

Application fee for 8-Count is $15 CAD. (If you need support with this fee or are an emerging filmmaker, please reach out to milana@ffdnorth.com for a voucher code.)
Successful 8-Count applicants will receive an honorarium of $700 CAD for the screening of their short film.
