The Tin Cowboy

The Tin Cowboy is an Emerson College Honors Thesis Film. It is inspired by the mythic nature of classic Hollywood Westerns. However, instead of recreating the Western narratives of old, this film tells the tale of a man named Ethan and his estranged daughter Jill, who reconnect after the passing of the family patriarch, a man shrouded in the myth and legend of the Wild West. Taking place during the 1970's it is a story about grief, coming to terms with the past, and the very process of storytelling and myth-making. The grandfather's death, and the mystery surrounding his past as an icon and hero of the Wild West, provides the stimulation to launch the father and daughter on a journey of self-discovery. The Tin Cowboy is a chamber piece and a small-scale character study that takes place in its entirety in the confines of a run down barn, where the character's pasts and inner demons come to light and into conflict.

Director Biography - Walker Sayen

Walker Sayen has been in love with Westerns ever since he set his eyes on John Ford's magical Monument Vally at the age of 10. Originating from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, it is this fascination with myths and legends, along with a deep love of storytelling and drawing, that ignited Walker's love for film. Even though he has transitioned from wanting to be an author and an illustrator to be a filmmaker, he has retained a passion for writing and painting as hobbies. In his spare time, Walker reads as much as possible and enjoys nature photography, camping and hiking.
