FALL
FALL, bodies hold onto a backlight. A moving shadow, just one. Are the waves rising up and falling into themselves? or the sea when tows and leaves a fine film of shining on the shoreline? FALL, an experimental dance film. Unceasing fall when the dance is announced in the shadows, as they go within every framework revealing the tide inside that room. The outside light comes through a large window. It auscultates and the film of the dance inside its glasses goes surrounding the bodies edge. One shadow, a prism through the memory of the sea rises dragging you.

Paulina Rutman is an interdisciplinary artist, specialized in film editing and choreography. Her main approach is the research of movement as a response to psychological states through contemporary dance, dance film and video art. With a university degree in Commercial Engineering, she has a professional training in choreography, film editing and performance. Her vast experience and educational background includes work-study programs at Movement Research (New York; USA), Dance Film Association (New York, USA), School of The Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, USA) and The Edit Center (New York, USA). Her most recent video work, “Fall” will be presented at File Electronic Language Festival (Brasil), Screen Motion Festival (England), Loikka Dance Film Festival (Finland) and Danza Em Foco Festival (Brasil) among others.
With each dance film, I attempt to create a new body language, using film editing as the main choreographic tool. The integration of both techniques (choreography and film editing) allow me to take the dance to another level: amplifying its effects and possibilities, and creating unlimited movements, effects and time. This allowed me to create multiple dancers and play with the same components that I use for choreography on stage, such as canon, unison, accumulation, repetition and others. The video then allows me to 're-compose' the choreography and finally the choreography is then made to a new video, which becomes the completed final work.
