Director Biography - George L Johnson3

I am somewhat aware regarding our surroundings -- usually rendered through art-- and leaning more towards photography-- sincere attempts at making sense out of and/or discovering the beauty inherent: from the under-rated snapshot to the editorial street capture & the abstract image as fine art to toy analog cameras & digital slrs; Motion picture film and video -- plus mixed.media collage-- this feature film endeavor has allowed me to utilize all of these self-acquired skills (and then some)!

My primary educational/ vocational background is in human services and social work, and I have served those deemed most vulnerable in our mostly confused society for the better part of my adult life, in many different capacities. This is, fortuitously, actually how I came to meet Felecia (the subject of our film) as we found ourselves working together in a Peer support environment at one of Portland's many non-profit organizations which serves folks who often experience extreme mental health states, addictions issues and sometimes houselessness. Needless to say we became friends and, thusly, this project ensued.

Director Statement

from recent viewings:

"..We watched Fu-Tang last night and were mesmerized! I cannot express how invigorating it is to know that such a film exists that is just as much of a beautiful miracle as its stalwart subject herself. .."

"..Just wanted to send a quick thank you for what you did with your documentary on Felicia. I've had more thoughts unfolding since the premiere - about how we cover up illness and disability in our culture, and those that are experiencing it, and of course, I've been thinking about my own participation in that as well. I really appreciate what you and Fee did with your work - and I just wanted to acknowledge that once again. I think it's a seed that will grow. Thanks for doing meaningful, important work, my friend..."
