Freedom Country

I am a refugee from Vietnam. I traveled by a small boat and lived in the refugee camp in Malaysia for seven years. Then I was forced to go back to Vietnam. I then lived in Vietnam for three years and then was re-settled in America. I talk about leaving his family and the boat ride that I experienced which was 7 days with no water, seeing people die in the boat. My mom and sister are interviewed in the video as well. This film can't be shown in Vietnam because of the Communist and my family will be harmed but I made this film in Texas so my story could be shared in America, my Freedom Country.

Director Statement

I come from Vietnam and lived in refugee camp. I see now the Refugee Crisis and the Executive Producer, June Owens, believed in me as a first-time director and encouraged me to tell my story. I'm glad I did so I can hopefully inspire others when thinking about a refugee...it could be you...like it was me. I am thankful for my Freedom Country.
