Director Statement

The short film CHEERS is the result of a course, I took at film school in my second year. As a student of the production management study we are allowed to make a film by our own, the get an idea of directing work.
The whole class had to build one set, in which every student had to write and shoot a film. The challenge of making this film was that we had only one shooting day with no chance for extra time.

It was hard to find a story, which can be shot in eight hours only, especially when the team is not very well experienced. Eight hours for light setup, shooting the entire film and do the extra sound recording. A really tough challenge!

The idea CHEERS was born some years ago at an international film workshop. Adam Murry had the main idea, and I jumped in. We never had the opportunity to realize the film until we decided to build a bar in the studio.

I liked the idea to make a film, telling a story in a minimalistic way without actually showing the story, but following the classical three act structure. It was some kind of experiment, and the university was the best place to try.
