Experiencing Interruptions?

That's Life - Abner Harris

That’s life is a sequence of five short documentaries about people who make a living as an artists.

Capturing the essence of those courageous people, the director Marcelli D'Andrea presents characters who don’t want to have an ordinary job. They push themselves out of their comfort zones and are constantly thinking, producing and delivering remarkable pieces.

You will get inspired by people who don’t belong to the culture of ‘the next big thing’. The path of an artist is different for each person but for all of them there is something they have in common: It is worth it.

Abner Harris
The first character is the fine artist Abner Harris.

He emigrated to the UK from the east coast of America in the late 90's and set up studio in London.

His work appeared in Mike Leigh’s film “Happy Go Lucky” and his most famous client to date is the Led Zeppelin founder and guitarist Jimmy Page, who commissioned a piece for his wife.

In recent years Abner has exhibited in London, Budapest and back in his hometown of Boston.

In this short documentary he shows the process of his painting, from the very beginning all the way to the art fair. Abner also explains how he balances his artistic life with the time he spends with his family and welcomes us to explore his self-built house.

Director Statement

I am a writer before I am a director. I have a passion for film and I thought would be great to share my thoughts with a worldwide audience.

I never imagined I could make a film but when I had my first idea and decided to film it I understood what that means. It was important to surround myself with the best technicians who helped me with skills that I don’t have. Film making is hard work but worth it and fun!
