Heaven's Gate

Manila has a population of nearly 11 million. On the city’s outskirts, the huge gap between the rich and the poor has given rise to slums, home to the poorest of the poor. An alternative accommodation for the poor has developed in the shade of the shopping malls, high-rise buildings and luxury villas: “Manila North Cemetery”. The inhabitants of this settlement - such as tombstone engraver Mario, caretaker Enchong and his daughter Maricel - have made their homes in the mausoleums, and in return they tend the graves. Rich and poor meet eventually, as they will later in death.
