Amer Albarzawi was born in Damascus in 1987. He began his career in gymnastics, dance, and performance. He worked with several theater groups in Syria and abroad, which led him to participate in numerous festivals between 2005 and 2017, such as the "Dancing on the Edge" festival in the Netherlands, as well as others in different countries like France and Belgium.
At the same time, he gradually developed his cinematic practice and founded Majooneh, a group of young Syrian artists, with whom he directed "Fade to Black", which won the Special Mention and Jury Prize at the Urban Film Festival in Toronto. In 2016, he directed "Yaman", which was selected in several festivals, including Annecy festival. Through his films, he seeks to shed light on the reality of the lives of many Syrians over the past decade.
Recently, he continues his filmmaking practice through stories of his personal experience of exile, isolation, and amnesia, which he has been going through since his arrival in Europe in 2017.
