Alan and Maria meet in the hospital and fall in love. The only problem: they are both dying. To make the impending separation less arduous, the two lovers plan long trips in which the survivor will pretend to have his beloved beside him. To make this possible, they combine their assets so that the survivor can travel to London, Paris, and New York. To avoid infighting, Alan and Mary present the plan to their closest relatives: Zack and Ted cousins of Mary, Erin and Boris nephews of Alan. All 4 are in financial straits, so much so that Zack and Ted on the occasion of their first meeting sublet their apartment to Erin and Boris themselves, who have just been evicted for nonpayment of rent. The struggle for inheritance then shifts to within a single apartment, a struggle that will become bloody as Alan and Maria enter their final weeks of life. Thanks to two trusted friends, Cody and Zelda, and a particularly ingenious Notary, the fight will have unexpected eventual winners.
