Director Statement

It was mid-April,when the news of the murder of a young girl (Romina) by her stepfather in a small village, shocked everyone to their core. When I was following the shocking news, I kept picturing in my mind what would have happened if she had managed to stand up to her stepfather? Was Romina also thinking about killing her stepfather? What kind of abuse was involved? The tragic story of Romina put an idea in my head about this screenplay (Slight Pain) and to write a plot around a young girl who would not submit to her stepfather’s cruelty and stand up against him. She manages to eliminate her stepfather with the help of her friend. My attempt in writing this plot was to create a character from an educated middle-class family in Iran who does not want to submit to the previous generation’s outdated beliefs.
