Arissa L. Utemark grew up in a small railroad town named Parsons using writing to escape the hot Kansas sun. She discovered theater performance late in high school and was awarded an acting scholarship to attend Washburn University, where she discovered the fusion of her two passions, writing and theatre, in playwriting. Soon, that interest expanded to a love of screenwriting.
Dreams of being a writer in hand, Arissa graduated from Washburn with a Bachelor’s Degree in Film and a minor in Theatre. She’s been produced by the Andrew J. and Georgia Neese-Gray Theatre and a runner-up in the One Act Playwriting Competition at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. She was also a finalist in the Center of the World Festival’s playwriting competition “Eco-friendly plays”. Her deeply personal short film Undertow debuted in 2013. She continues to write screenplays.
