Slippage

Order and chaos smash against each other as dancers cross over into a psychological underworld where relentless forces thrust them into new limits of physical and spiritual discoveries. Slippage is a physically demanding trio for women, with contact improvisational derived movement, where the goal is to push the boundaries of female to female partnering. The movement is at time brutal, rough and challenging, yet also gentle and calm. Within the context of the dance, each dancer is tested to see how long they can hold onto their sanity amidst the whirling energy around them.

From Choreographer Maurice Fraga and Jason Kaufman
Slippage can best be described as the juxtaposition of order and chaos as dancers cross
over into a psychological underworld where relentless forces thrust them into new limits of
physical and spiritual discoveries. Slippage is a physically demanding trio for women, with
contact improvisational derived movement, where the goal is to push the boundaries of female to
female partnering. The movement is at times brutal, rough and challenging, yet also gentle and
calm. Each dancer is tested to see how long she can hold onto her sanity amidst the whirling
energy of the performance.
Using a genre that explores kinetic energy, visual concept, poetry, imagery and narrative
story-telling, we will use both choreography and film techniques to create a world where women
can explore loneliness, grief and the need to embrace their shared experiences.. Slippage
explores a woman’s yearning to exorcise a painful memory and how sometimes these attempts can be fought in a single moment.
