The Supermarket

13yr old Matty believes he needs bigger muscles to attract a girl. In order to buy gym equipment he bluffs his way into a job at the local supermarket but comes unstuck when the owner, Hamid, realises that he has been deceived. It is only through a desperate act of self sacrifice that Matty regains the trust of Hamid and earns the attention from a girl.

Director Biography - Stuart O'Rourke

I have recently directed AUSSIE GOLD, an 8x1hr ob doc series for DISCOVERY CHANNEL. It broadcasts in 2016.

In 2014 I directed STRUGGLE STREET, a 3x1hr ob doc series for SBS TV. I was responsible for sourcing contributors and capturing their life on camera.

I began my career in London in 2000 where I worked as a Prod Assistant on the ITV drama series POIROT (2 x 2hr) for Carnival Films.

Returning to Sydney, I worked for 4 yrs at Crackerjack Productions in the role of Editor, which included 3 seasons of sketch comedy series COMEDY INC (over 40hrs of TV) for Ch 9.

As an independent I have directed the travel series INSIDE INDIA and a 1hr doco about the heavy metal music culture in Finland, THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT METAL, which won the Silver Palm Award at the 2009 Mexico Intl Film Festival.

In 2011 I was cinematographer on the short film JULIAN which has won many awards including the Crystal Bear at Berlinale and the AACTA Award for Best Short.

Short film RAVI & JANE (2013), written & directed by me, has won awards in India and the USA and has screened at more than 35 international film festivals, including TIFF Kids (Canada) & Edinburgh (UK).

Most recently I directed segments for WE ARE YOUNG and I also shot an ob doco in Beijing, A TALE OF TWO CITIES, for WILDBEAR ENTERTAINMENT & BEIJING TV.

I hold a BA in TV Production from CSU (1997) and a Post Grad Dip in Journalism from UTS (2007).
