Director Biography - Geoff Whitney

Driven by an independent spirit and a need for creative outlets, I have traveled throughout

America and Europe studying and observing artists of a variety of genres. Apprenticed to renowned

architect Carroll Ishe as a boy, I then studied architecture and woodworking in California. Then to

Italy to assist photographer Filippo Occhino for three years as his assistant in Milan. When I

returned to the states, I dealt in abstract art, based in Ocean Springs Mississippi, traveling up

and down the east coast selling the art to galleries.

Back in California, I returned to woodworking, creating custom furniture and installations in the

L.A. and San Francisco areas. After a sortee into finance as a broker and investment banker, I came

back to my roots in the south, and returned to a lifestyle that allows me to enjoy my two great

passions, woodworking and photography/film making.

I currently run a custom lumber mill where I collect rare woods, primarily Southern. This is what

pays for my current endeavors. Prospective buyers come from all over the world to choose wood for

their projects.

I have been making machinima (movies made on a computer) for the past six years, some of which have

qualified for national and international film festivals, including the 2010 Shanghai Worlds Fair at

Shangri La. I currently have couple thousand short films on Vimeo and YouTube – please take the

time to view some of them - and let me know what you think!
