Strings
Shot on location at Warburton, “Strings” charts the journey of a man, a puppeteer named Magnus who’s only true friend is his marionette, as he confronts his social isolation and seeks to change his role in society, ultimately realising the futility of conformity and deciding to forge a new path. It is an arthouse exploration of what it means to be an individual and “the other,” and the ways in which the societal fear of being different, and need for there to be an outsider, forces confining roles upon those who don’t follow the way of the crowd.

Gaia Mitting has had a love for film narratives and the vibrant characters within them for the entirety of her life, as well for the arts of acting and music. She studied Media in VCE and made several short student films, some of which received encouragement awards from the Warburton "Show us your Shorts" film festival. Now in her first year of a Bachelor of Film and Television at Swinburne University, Gaia continues to develop her creative voice, technical knowledge and directorial skills. She is interested in advocacy for wild places and the creatures within them, as well as the wildness within all individuals, and in acknowledging and portraying powerful female voices who do not conform to society's norms.
