Jim Bultas fits the description of Renaissance man very well. He regularly performs all aspects of filmmaking and music production, enjoys producing podcast audio dramas and loves to cook. He is a professional musician by day (sometimes night) and a filmmaker/podcaster when he finds the time.
Jim was born and raised in Springfield, MO and later moved to Los Angeles for 8 years for music school. After graduating with honors from Musician's Institute, he went to work in and around the music and film businesses. His first film experience was as a music editor on the tv pilot The Privateers starring Karl Urban and Walter Koening. After moving back to Missouri he started teaching Guitar and Bass lessons fulltime as well as wrote and directed his first feature length film Rock 'n' Roll Space Patrol Action Is Go! which received a 2005 Cinemerge Best Film Award and worldwide DVD distribution through Troma. He followed that up with the 40 minute short film Highway Pirates (2007). His local community was hit hard by an epic ice storm in 2007. He made a documentary that aired nationwide on The Current. In 2009 he created Redline Theatre, a short form fully produced audio drama podcast which was a Parsec Award Finalist in 2011. More recently he's just completed the last of a trilogy of short films entitled, Taking Care Of Bidness (2014-2015) and started a video and filmmkaing class for kids. He has composed and performed all the music for his films and podcasts. On his off time he enjoys cooking and spending time with his wife, their two children and two dogs.
The more I learn about filmmaking, music, food and art, the more interconnected I find them to be. I love that.
