J. KESSELS a.k.a ROAD DUSTER

A writer, Frans, with a writers block is to go on a strange trip to Hamburg with his old pal and favorite character J. KESSELS. To have to fetch a cheating sausage export dealer. But the real reason is Frans is hoping to see his Beebeetje, back, the pinballwizzard princess from the snackbar from his adolescent years.

Director Biography - Erik de Bruyn

ERIK DE BRUYN

WILD MUSSELS ( WILDE MOSSELS) is his feature-film debut. It was the OPENING FILM of the 2000 Dutch Film Festival. It got great reviews and won several awards and nominations. It stars the Award winning actor FEDJA VAN HUET.
According to the book 1001 Films you must see before you die, WILD MUSSELS is one of the best Dutch movies ever made.
His second movie NADINE, was Opening Film of the Competitionj Program of the 56th International Mannheim Heidelberg Filmfestival. His third feature THE PRESIDENT, did well as highschool comedy and won the BEST COMEDY AWARD at the 2012 TIBURON IFF.
His fourth feature film J. KESSELS a.k.a. ROAD DUSTER (2015) was again chosen as OPENING FILM of the Dutch Film Festival. Great reviews and now it is finding it’s way to international festivals. It won awards, f.e. the Best Production Design Award, a Golden Calf at the Dutch Film Festival and at the Chicago Blow Up Art Film Fest, Best Director and Best Editor Award at the Independent International Film Festival Moscow.
In 2016 he directed a feature length film for national television, called HOPE, with award winning actors MONIC HENDRICKX and GENE BERVOETS

Erik also wrote and directed the short films SPRING SONG ( nominated for the NPS AWARD 2005 and THE WITNESS ( Nominated for Golden Calf Best Short Film 2006). Meanwhile he also directed commercials, f.e. international campaigns for Heineken, Unilever, Nastro Azurro, Kpn, Dutch Taxes, LION, RIEDEL, etc.

Erik is not only a director, but he also acted. He won the Silver Dolphin
( prize for Best Male Performance) for his lead role in Paul Ruven’s feature ‘HOW TO SURVIVE A BROKEN HEART’, on the International Filmfestival of Troia, Portugal, 1990.
He also played the part of Arend in the OSCAR-winning movie ANTONIA’S LINE, by Marleen Gorris, and Paul Ruven’s Golden Calf winning movie ZAP.
As musician (singer/songwriter) he played in many bands. For Wild Mussels he wrote, played, arranged and sang some of the music. And for J. Kessels he sang some of the rerecorded songs.

He got an honoured degree in film-arts at the University of Amsterdam in 1989.
Before his directing career, he worked as assistent director of Otakar Votocek ( o.a. WINGS OF FAME), Pim de la Parra ( o.a OBSESSIONS, BLUE MOVIE, WAN PEOPLE), Paul Ruven, Eric de Kuyper ( award winning film PINK ULYSESS).
