The Truth, a Short Film

The Truth

A young girl keeps her diary and reaches out to you, using her cell phone, at the same time as she keeps a record of the truth.

She shares in her diary and with you - falling in love, hating her mother, hating her parents fighting, being afraid to grow up, being upset that they may move, loving the locket her aunt gives her and feeling loved in ways by her aunt that her parents can't seem to muster, wishing the boy she is in love with would grow taller, confronting her disappointment that she has no relationship with him, sharing her glee at having a best friend and confiding in each other, coming to terms with growing up, letting go of the her first love, getting ready to move and more. She turns off her phone and closes her diary as they move, happy that she has found a secret way, using her precious locket, to hold on to herself emotionally as the movers come.

Director Statement

"I am living my dream of bringing to girls and women the tools and encouragement to hold on to the best of themselves and to honor their dreams, aspirations, talents, and untapped potential. The Truth, A Short Film' as well as my other short films, utilizes a new technique that I have been developing as a psychologist and a filmmaker.
It is the "Selfiefilm", which means I use Selfie technology combined with B-role filming. I see my films as fictional drama, full of teachable moments. In these films we get to understand adolescence better. Grown-ups have simply forgotten many of the emotional aches and pains of growing up. They need to be reminded. Kids are living these moods and emotions right now, but don't know how to evaluate how they feel and often don't know how to reach solutions to challenging situations they are in. My films help both kids and adults by providing the information they need. These films are carefully designed to connect with young people and to arouse feelings and memories in adults. They are raw and real, as much of the filming is done by the actress with her own iphone, augmented at times with a B-roll team of camera people. Is the lighting perfect? No. Is the sound totally even? No. But does the film teach, give hope, and tell a real slice of life (that most of us have been through) in so touching a manner that the audience laughs and sighs from deep in their bellies? Yes.

Leaving the treatment room part of my day, to become a female filmmaker with mental file cabinet full of real life stories and issues that girls, tweens and teens face is so exciting. Now I have one more way to reach out to the public and via film give hope, encouragement and inspiration to so many!"

he treatment room to film by writing and directing 'The Truth' is fabulous as I have discovered another way to help give hope, meaning and positive energy to girl's lives. "
