There are few places in Europe where the relationship between man and wildlife is as strong as it is in Sweden and this is what immediately fascinated me about the country. For Sweden the moose is much more than a large browsing animal or hunting game. The moose is the King of the forest, a national symbol and a magnificent creature.
When I first met Fredrik and Jonas, the moose detective and the state veterinarian, I was amazed at how much respect and admiration they had for the moose, and how dedicated they were to their work. “Sweden would not be the same without the moose” they once told me, and this is what motivates them every day to study and protect this beautiful animal from the threats we are constantly posing to the natural world.
