Director Statement

I grew up in Switzerland. Soon after high school, I left my home to work in the film industry in Germany then Sweden and for the past two and a half years in the United States.

Lost and Found is about Paul, an orphan kid that tries to find his family with his two best friends Tommy and Andrea. However, only after Paul risks everything and turns his back on his friends, he realizes that he always had a family: his friends.

I wanted to realize Paul’s story, because I’ve been in his shoes and learned the same thing in my life that he learns in Lost and Found.
Before I left Switzerland, my friends were always a pine cone throw away from me but I didn’t realize that until I left them behind and my parents got divorced.
My family was breaking apart and I was thousands of miles away somewhere on the globe. I thought I was alone, had no one to turn to, no one who would listen, no one I could laugh or cry with. I was wrong. I might have left my friends, but they never left me.
It was during that time, that I’ve learned to appreciate the unconditional support of my friends and the fact that they were always there for me, no matter where I was in the world and in what time zone I was in. I learned that my friends are the family I choose.

Sincerely,
Gian Marco Heilmann
