Director Biography - Brendan Donnelly , Beñat Fuentes

Brendan Donnelly is a filmmaker and musician from Limerick Ireland currently based in Hangzhou China.

Brendan began his interest in film making as a member of the band 'The Phoenix Prestige'. He travelled throughout China documenting the band's tour, recording two albums and playing major festivals such as The World's Expo Shanghai 2010 and the Westlake music Festival 2011. The band received critical acclaim and media attention in China, Hongkong, Europe and United States

In 2012 together with musician and audio engineer Beñat Fuentes, he founded China Field recordings. After eight years of living in China and developing a deep passion for Chinese folk music Brendan Donnelly was inspired by the pioneering spirit of field recording engineers such as Alan Lomax to capture the authentic sounds of Chinese folk and ethnic music performed by local musicians and singers. Using portable audio and visual recording equipment he travelled extensively throughout Zhejiang recording and documenting native singers performing local traditional songs.

The project recieved coverage in major international media organizations including Hangzhou TV, Zhejiang TV, Euskadi Irratia media, Spanish and Basque TV shows ETB1 and ETB2.

Currently Brendan is working on new video works including the recently completed 'A Fisherman's Song' filmed in Zhoushan China and soon to be completed short doc 'The KunQu Singer' filmed in Hangzhou China.
