Ed Bergtold is a graduate of Monmouth University class of 2000, with a B.A. in Communications with a focus in Film/Television/Radio Production. Ed also is a graduate of A.T.I (The Actors Training Institution) where he was mentored by John M. Eyd for three years.
In 1998, Ed began his career in production at MTV as an intern in their marketing, casting, and production management departments. After his internship, Ed produced and hosted a Television Magazine Show titled “Get Real” for the close circuit Monmouth University television network “Hawk TV”. It aired weekly for one semester, after that Ed focused his talents in documentary film making. For his thesis project he decided to dive into the world of the supernatural and wrote/directed/produced/edited his final project titled “Bumps in The Night” which documented reported hauntings around campus, including “Wilson Hall” which was featured as the location of Daddy Warbuck’s Mansion in the 1982 Motion Picture “Annie”. The documentary aired on Hawk TV for several years every Halloween even after he graduated. Post graduate production work includes: Producer on the indie feature film “By The River Rye” as well as the 1st Assistant Director on the short film “Beseech Me” and as an Art Department PA on the feature film “The Orphan Killer”.
After graduating in 2000, Ed pursed his true love, acting. He chose ATI as it had the same curriculum as The Actor’s Studio did in its early days. After honing his craft for three years Ed ventured into NYC around 2003. He performed in theatre first at such locations as: The John Houseman Theatre, 13th St., Chekov Theatre, Two Rivers Theatre Company & Finally worked with Tony Award Nominee: Sammy Dallas Bayes on "One Man's War", to name a few. Eventually, Ed got into the world of film acting, which was his greatest desire. Ed was cast in a large number of independent films in leading and supporting roles and finally in 2009 had a small principal role in "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" directed by Oliver Stone, as well as in "13" directed by Gela Babluani & starring Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Sam Riley & Emmanuelle Chriqui. He has been a member of AFTRA since 2004 and SAG since 2007, and now SAG-AFTRA.
This film is a culmination of roughly three years of work from developing the concept, to fundraising, to pre-production, production and post. I have always been a big fan of the genre and wanted to make a film with a style of the 70's and 80's with modern movie making sensibilities.
I got the idea for the film one day, while I was driving in New England and saw a barn on the side of the road with the statement "Take back Vermont" painted on the side of it, and thought, "That belongs in a movie!" I asked myself what are they trying to take the state back from? I immediately thought of the Patrick Swayze film "Red Dawn". But I wanted to put it in the world of horror, so I figured, The Undead, perfect! I also decided to set the film in my home state of New Jersey. Not the urban part where I'm from, but the more rural part.
I wrote three drafts of a feature length script, and then decided to take some elements from that and write a self contained short as I figured I'd never be able to raise the money needed to make a feature film the way I wanted it to be.
I met producer Karin Ivancev in 2011 on a short film that I was the actor in. I presented my project to her and our work began. We submitted an application to The New York Foundation for the Arts in 2012 for fiscal sponsorship, got accepted, won a couple of film grants and raised the rest through crowd fundraising. By 2014 we had enough money to shoot the movie the way we wanted to. We went into production in early July 2014 and completed post-production in the Spring of 2015.
I truly love this art form and feel humbled that I had the opportunity to bring my vision to life with like minded and excellent artists and I am indebted to them forever! Hope you like the film!
