On the way of recognition

Strong emotional bond, ensuing responsibilities, attachment for a companionate togetherness is what characterizes an Indian family. This uniqueness is now looked upon and respected by the whole world. But there is always darkness beneath the lamp. Indian family system is based upon the fulcrum that is mostly a woman. Domestic works including cooking, washing, cleaning and rearing up children falls under the duty to be performed by women. This tiring job, which is no less than any other jobs, goes unnoticed and unrecognized by her own family members. Even the woman cannot conceive that her domestic labor could have been paid if she worked outside home. Many sophisticated, educated person in India do not think twice before ordering his mother/daughter/wife who stays back at home, to serve him when he comes back from work considering the fact that domestic labor is an immaterial stress less job as it is done at home only!
Animar Akash through its cinematic lens tries to build its narrative on a rural family who earns their livelihood from fishing. The main protagonist Anima has been always very confident and upward looker type. She gets influenced by awareness campaigns for the right to be recognized and paid for domestic unpaid labor, to invest her time and energy for other employment and thus contribute financially to her family. The film shows that to sustain a family is not the sole responsibility of a woman and even Anima’s family breaks open the gender order and equally shares the domestic sphere. .
