Donnie Holland

Donnie Holland is the quintessential Boston hero: a slight, scrappy city kid who loves his motha but ain’t afraid to fight. But unlike his counterparts in Matt Damon movies, Donnie’s struggles have more to do with getting out of the rut of his 20’s than ruling the streets. In the first four episodes of this web series, Donnie is warned by a ghost to clean up his act, jarred by news that his ex-girlfriend is working as a stripper, perplexed by the sudden return of his estranged father, and chastened by the success of a former high-school classmate who graduated from Harvard.

Director Biography - Evan Skladany

Evan Skladany grew up outside Boston, except for one kaleidoscopic teenage year spent in Bangkok. He went to college in New Mexico, taught English in France, and held a series of dumb office jobs in Boston and New York before deciding he'd better become a filmmaker. He is blessed with a loving wife and a real firecracker of a four-year-old son.

Director Statement

The idea for Donnie Holland came about after spending a long time writing a one-hour pilot script set in Boston. I wanted to use the idiom of the "Boston Kid" in a playful way, but without relying on stereotypical Boston gags. A story evolved about a character in his late 20's trying to reconcile his traditional views with a changing world. I raised money on Kickstarter, and was lucky enough to find a group of highly skilled actors and production professionals to help make the first half of this independent web series a reality.
