Never going back

Doug “ DangerMon” Poger grew up in the sleepy beach town of West Haven – Home of the SPLIT HOT DOG. He lived right next to Savin Rock, the amusement park. It was there behind the Carousal that he dreamed of leaving that one horse town and becoming a filmmaker. Doug did leave and moved to Bethany, where they have more horses than people. He then took a job at WTXX Chan. 20 as the Chief Videographer and soon became Field Director. In the 80’s he also shot and edited the news – NEWSWATCH 20 at WTXX. However Doug had a more creative side and wanted to use his knowledge of television production for something more avant-garde. So in August 1988 he helped organized The Dadaist Invasion of Lighthouse Point. At the invasion he unveiled his video installation called DA DA T.V. On June 30th 1996, the first International Festival of Arts & Ideas showed Doug’s surreal film- Blizzard of the Century. As a true Dadaist, he would show up at Festivals, camera in hand and do part street theater part television mockumentary. Then in June 2002 he was knighted GRAND POo Pah of DADA at the Ideat Village Festival in New Haven. Doug showed his multi medium piece, The Dada Pavilion. In 2003, the filmmaker showed his films at THE BRASS BALL. He has been recognized for his stylized off kilter shooting and editing. In 2004 and 2005 he was asked to show films in Film Fest New Haven which included the runaway hit YO PLASTIC BAG – a day in a life of a Plastic Bag. At the 2005 Film Fest New Haven he was invited back as one of “Connecticut’s best filmmakers”. Doug currently produces a show called Son of a DA DA T.V. He was awarded best editor in 2008 and 2009 by Comcast Skye Cable for the show. “As a drummer, I’m able to cut the film to the beats” Doug told us explaining his fast cutaway shots. “I enjoy producing films about different artists giving them a chance to present their art to a larger audience” In 2010 he produced Projecto Festo at Freight Street Gallery. In 2011 and 2012, the filmmaker attended The Connecticut Film Industry Training Program. Also in 2012, Doug created and produced The Brass City Music and Film Festival - a festival exclusively of Connecticut filmmakers. Doug is the drummer for NOT HERE, he recently directed the conceptual music video “Never Going Back” off the bands “Only Love” release. Doug was Director of Photography for the indie films Love Unconditional and To death do we part. As part of the L.A.M.P Fest, he projected his Dadaist shorts on a Chapel Street building. Last year he was in a sitcom troupe called Saturday Morning Shorts, where he honed his Improv. chops. In 2014, Doug directed a film with some very creative friends- Completed in 48 hours, The Directors cut will debut in 2015. Losing Face - A story of Parole Officer that worked the New Haven beat.
