Born and raised in Estonia, Kadri has spent all of her independent life studying and working in various parts of Europe and Asia. Before starting graduate studies at Stanford she resided in Beijing where she worked for the documentary film production company Mandarin Film. With her roles varying from fixer to production and camera assistant, she helped to produce a series of short documentaries for the education company Cheng & Tsui, introducing learners of Mandarin Chinese to contemporary Chinese culture. She also assisted with a variety of tasks in preparation for Matt Tyrnauer’s upcoming feature documentary about the future of cities, A Matter of Life And Death, funded by the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations. Simultaneously, as a personal documentary project, living among migrant workers in a Beijing hútong community over the course of a year she explored street workers’ relationship with work.
