Soleils Welt / Soleils World
In a monotonous city follow the tall citizens their usual routine, jumping up and down the road. Apart from that lives a little girl, Soleil, unnoticed and withdrawn from them, following her own routine: During the daytime she fabricates “Lichtspiele”, which are made of colorful, glittering glass-pieces that are swinging from the ceiling and transforming her room into a beautiful, shimmering world. Only at night, when everyone is asleep, is Soleil able to collect those unnoticed treasures from the streets. But one night, a little being crawls unseen into her bag. When she encounters it at home, Soleil is very afraid. But the being is able to transform her fear into trust and guides her outside the city, far away from what is known to her. The new acquired perspective changes Soleils world…

Melissa Rothmann was born 1989 in Bautzen, Germany, and studied film (both BA and MA degree) at the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg, Austria. She has been working as editor and DoP on feature length documentaries, as DoP and writer on short films and directed and animated her very first short analogue animation, which she created together with Lilija Tchourlina (co-writer, artdirector) and other students together.
'Soleils Welt' is our first Stop-Motion animation project. We learned a lot in this process over the 2,5 years in which we worked on Soleil, and I for myself discovered my love for analogue puppet animations.
