Director Statement

The conflict between Lebanon and Israel is several decades old. The two countries have always been sworn enemies, yet both Lebanese and Israeli citizen share many similarities, which makes the two countries quite unique in the region. Sadly, peace in the region is improbable due to a complex political situation that is not going to change anytime soon. As a Lebanese citizen, one is not allowed to speak to an Israeli as it will be considered collaborating with the enemy for which you will be treated as a traitor to your country. With Friend Request I try to go beyond the political issues between the two countries in an attempt to look into an unlikely short-lived friendship between two persons that are far from the sworn enemies the world wants them to be. Rami and Ayala meet on neutral ground in Berlin and discover they are very much alike, yet in the world they live in, being friends is simply not allowed.
