Rodney Greenwood was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He is a former standout wide receiver from Theodore Roosevelt High School and spent most of his life playing football and sports. He stays active by weightlifting and doing running events. He also a proud Tough Mudder finisher.
Rodney has always wanted to be involved in filmmaking, but only saw it as an unobtainable dream. This all changed when he responded to a request for a production assistant for the local film, Sanitarium. At that moment he believed it was now the time he took his dream seriously. He has then participated in two, 48-hour film festivals. One as a writer and the second as the director of photography. Rodney is a self-taught filmmaker and his first short film, Pyros will have it's world Premiere at the San Antonio Film Festival. He still has a full-time job and hopes his dream may turn into a career.
Learn to fail. That is the declaration I made after a long conversation with my brother before starting the pursuit of this crazy dream of filmmaking. It all started around August 2013 when I decided it was now the time I attempted to make my first film. I saved up money for a few months to purchase my first camera, the Canon T3i. Shortly after I bought my first lens, the "nifty-fifty" and shortly after that completed my first script, "Pyros".
Pyros, represents that statement-"learn to fail"-as that is what I set out to do. Don't get me wrong, that statement does not represent pessimism. It's actuallly a positive statement for me. For I read a quote that went along the lines of, "The pain of not taking action is greater than the pain of rejection." It was my turn to take action and if I failed in the process, I knew that pain of failure would not be nearly as bad as regret. Therefore, I set out to learn to fail with "Pyros", because I knew at the end of the day I would not fail to learn. The knowledge in this industry is infinite and all I want to do is learn so I can continue to try to get better. This little film was my first attempt, and I hope it will not be my last.
