Ocean Driven
A true story that tracks the development of South African big wave surfer Chris Bertish. His single-minded pursuit of his dreams and refusal to let seemingly insurmountable obstacles stand in his way, culminates with his win at the Mavericks Invitational in 2010, in the biggest waves at a Mavericks competition. Moments after nearly drowning, he takes the world by storm. Ocean Driven is a tale of overcoming obstacles and fears, inspiring viewers to realize their dreams and never give up. The film features archived material recorded throughout the life of Chris Bertish and his unsponsored journey to make it to Mavericks. The story is told through the voices of Chris’s family, peers, legendary surfers, mentors, sports specialists and Chris himself.

Chris applies his trials and joys into an inspiring and moving story, and travels all over the world motivating audiences to believe that they too can achieve great things with the right self-belief, attitude and focus. In addition to Chris’s global keynote addresses, he has spoken for TEDx and FEAT. After documenting on film much of his big wave odyssey around the world, he is working on a new book. Chris' motto “Dream it, see it, believe it, achieve it.”
The minute I saw the impact that Chris's life and mission made on the people who followed him, I knew his story had to be told. Chris's unyielding passion, contagious enthusiasm, and generous spirit are a rare treat. The film is a poetic, thrill ride that brings reverence to our unsung heroes and great oceans, while reminding us of those universal stories in all of us. No stones were left unturned with our main character on board for creation, which adds to the sense of raw truth and presence in the film. The collaboration of our two teams, in the US and South Africa, made for a deep process that strengthened and focused the story, and it felt predestined. Enjoy! - Nadia Tarlow
