3 states of sugar
This video is a part of the trilogy about controversial foods : animal protein, bread as gluten and sugar.
Sugar is considered a drug in the world of food. It alters mood and can induce reward and pleasure, the addictive properties of sugar are similar to cocaine. It can create a spark of energy and a short-term high; long-term health effects like obesity and diabetes are a risk of sugar overindulgence. Non-artificially added sugar that we get from foods is the main source of glucose, which gives energy to our brain and muscles and therefore is vital for survival.
Why sugar cubes? Because cube is a symbol of arabic pre-islamic female deity Al-Lat associated with prosperity and love. Now think about thousands of arabs (whose culture is predominantly chauvinistic) praying in the Kaaba to a cube. Life is full of contradictions.

Anice Jee was born and raised in Moscow, Russia. Right after school she decided to study journalistic photography at Moscow State University, which helped her to develop both storytelling and visual skills.
In 2008 she moved to Hyderabad, India, to do her master studies in Radio and Video production at Hyderabad Central University. This was a very important sociological experience that taught her how to work with people of different cultural backgrounds and values.
From 2010 to 2014 Anice worked in Russian mass media. To get away from a given news paradigm she started to produce independent music videos and challenged herself through taking first steps as a documentary filmmaker.
In 2015 she moved to New York to take 1-year Documentary program at New York Film Academy. After completing the course she stayed in the city working as videographer, educator and artist.
In the past 10 years she participated in a few group and solo art shows, her videos were accepted to various film festivals around the world.
I define myself as a visual artist. I don’t put myself in frames of just one media and like to experiment with various forms of art from tattoo to fashion, my special love goes to video art.
Some general words about my art: i LOVE to amuse and provoke. i BELIEVE that a story as well as the beauty can be found anywhere. i HOPE to be heard and seen as an artist.
I approach life itself as an artwork. Every place I live in, I go to, food I eat, clothes I wear, actions I take should have an artistic value. They can be aesthetically beautiful or visually provoking or semantically loaded, but they rarely are random. Random things get rhymed with elaborate.
