Healey's Hideaway

Jeff Healey,a true Canadian, born and raised in Etobicoke,ON , was a blind guitar player who never let his physical challenges stand in his way.
His career started when he was still a teenager performing with his high school band and later, performing on his own around the city at any Blues club that would let him play. Before he knew it, he was already touring across Canada when his first band formed –”The Jeff Healey Band”. Soon after ,his career peaked and Hollywood called him. He made it. Signing his first record deal with Arista /Clive Davis, helped Jeff shape his career and his name now was known around the world.

The breakup of the “Jeff Healey Band” made Jeff decide he wanted to open a Blues Club in Toronto where he would be able to invite guest artists and play any kind of music he’d like.
The club had legendary musicians gracing the stage. It also allowed Jeff play the music he was most passionate about-Traditional Jazz from the 1920's & 30's.

The movie tells the story of the Jeff Healey club ,the A- list musicians who played there and of course the amazing talent that Jeff had as a Blind Musician who never let his disability stop him from doing what he loved most -Music.

With interviews with Cristie Healey, Randy Bachman , Burton Cummings,Ronnie Hawkins,The Jazz Wizards, Tony Springer and rare live performance footage from the club with Jeff Healey, Ian Gillan and others.

Director Statement

I made Healey's Hideaway out of pure need to have closure for myself and for my musician friends.

When Jeff Healey passed away in 2008 and his club-Healey's- which I worked at, shut down only couple months after, we all felt that a big chunk of our life is now gone.

I needed to do this for Jeff, the family, the musicians , the friends ,the fans and for the music world so that we always have something to come back to and remember Jeff, the club and the magical time we had there every night.

Movies and especially documentaries are made in order to Document. That's why we call it Documentaries.

Some movies are made in order to make you think, or to begin a social discussion and some movies are here to celebrate, cherish and remember.

Healey's Hideaway is a movie that celebrates, honours, cherishes and remembers a time in history that will never happen again.

Like movies such as The Last Waltz, Sound City, Muscle Shoals and many more- Healey's Hideaway celebrates a time in Music History that was magical, unique, creative ,and a place that allowed musicians to flourish and exchange their talent together on stage . Now, with this film , it is my hope that it will always be remembered in the history of music.
