Director Biography - Brandon Nichols

In early 2009, Brandon Nichols found his calling in film making. That passion can be traced back to childhood with his obsession for the classic Universal Monsters and the 80’s use of splatter effects. Driven to make his own mark in the Horror genre, he spent hours upon hours learning the art of practical make up effects. Coming from an artistic background ranging from music to painting, Brandon was no stranger to the art of expression. Armed with a portfolio of his grotesque injury simulations and a ‘learn by doing’ approach to FX work, Brandon was eager to bring his creepy creations to the screen, and it was not long before he was able to do just that. He managed to catch the attention of local filmmaker Ron Purtee, who employed his services on a short film entitled, “From the Heart” and caught the eye of famed horror publication Fangoria. By mid-2013, Nichols’ FX work had been featured in 6 of Purtee’s short films and obtained acting experience in them as well. He played characters ranging from the meat head ex-boyfriend, a corpse, and a psychotic clown. With the time he spent perfecting his craft, it would be safe to say, were finally paying off.
In the fall of 2013, Brandon decided to explore the other areas of film making and jumped right in. With the new found knowledge of both sides of the camera, it was time to create something of his own. Armed with various screenplays in a hard drive, there was no better time than the present.
In February 2014, Brandon paired with writer/producer Jamie Page to form Lurid Artist Productions. The company is geared towards bringing exposure to struggling artists, and serves as an outlet for the independent artist community. By February 2015, Brandon released his first short film entitled ‘Impulse’. as his directorial debut, IMPULSE dares viewers to take a deeper look at the monster. Not the monster in the closet or under the bed, but the one staring back in the mirror. With a running time of just under 12 minutes, Nichols combines his creative flare with dark imagery to make even the most natural situation seem unsettling. With multiple film projects being released in the coming months, Impulse is the first of many from Brandon Nichols. His latest film entitled 'The Writer', proves to be a continuation of that creative flare established with Impulse. The film also features his co-star from Impulse, Jamie Page. With a run time of just over 15 minutes, the film focuses on the strain and stress of an independent artist. As a writer, Angela (Page) is exhausted from her current workload due to a swiftly approaching deadline. Struggling to make ends meet for herself and teenage son (Corbin Page), a vicious writer's block stands between her paycheck and her sanity. Where Impulse attracted to strangers, this film touches on the more personal emotions involved with an artist perfecting their craft. This is the second directorial effort from Nichols, in just over a months time! Alongside Jamie Page, the duo continue to write, direct and produce their own material for Lurid Artist Productions who promises to forge their own path in the genre.
