COMING FROM THE VOID

Elena is a vet that works with racehorses. She is good at her job but at the same time unscrupulous, cynical and opportunistic. A SUV, money and cocaine are the elements that give meaning to her life; but in this turbid world there is also an example of purity and morality: her beloved boyfriend, Fedro. He is a vet too but he operates in a complete different way.
One day, without a clear motive, Fedro kills himself by injecting a dose of Tanax -the poison used by vets to put down animals- into his vein.
Elena is in shock and her world starts to fall apart.
She wants to discover the reason for her lover’s death and in order to do so she decides to follow the same professional career as him, meeting the same people and being part of the same environment.
She resigns from her job at the racecourse and becomes a vet for the Local Health Authority, where Fedro worked.
She faces new and hard challenges. She is trapped in a system that wants to extend the rationality of human beings to the world of nature which belongs to the animals.
Could this be the reason Fedro killed himself?
The conflict between these two worlds finds its synthesis in Elena’s body. While she is putting down a horse according to the law, she gets hurt. Elena loses the baby that she was carrying. Fedro died before she had told him he was going to be a father.
The existential emptiness she feels is deep. Elena tries to kill herself in the same way as Fedro, but the method is not perfect and she fails to commit suicide.
She is called, against her will, back to life’s agonies.
Through her job she comes into contact with a cooperative farm, managed by Atlante, a gigantic man, that brings new values and existential principles into her life.
Elena has to face a new challenge: but this time she is supported by new energy and hope.
