The seventh day
“The modern developed societes do not tend to rule people through the threat of death or hell, but through control over lives and bio powers, of which, now days health-care fundamentalism is the most effective”.
The preface is the symptom of the film’s painful situation.
A group of shepherds is busy in its daily work: milking, pasturing. They show their full commitment for their work.
For their interviews it emerges that something strange is happening: because of mysterious disease named “Scrapie”, the entire herd of more then 2000 sheep has to put down; even she, the goat named Tasha, loved by children, has to be killed.
“Why do they want to kill them? They are not thin, they are fat. I don’t see any disease. I look at them, they are fine; so where did this thing come from for our animals?”
The answer of the Vet:
“It is the law. Even if the disease has been well-known for over 200 years, and has never affected human beings. Therefore we have to kill them all even Tasha.”
In front of the arrogance of the Vet. The shepherd talks sententiously:
“You are all crazy. You all act like a God. You do the hell you like; but one thing you will never reach: the seventh day’s quiet.”
The stamping out starts: dead bodies, blood, knives, docked heads. Dying sheep’s eyes. Life passing away.
The last scene is on Tasha: a dead body in the mass.
