Through honest and eye-opening discussions, this short documentary brings men into the conversation about periods, discussing why they are seen as a “female-only problem”. We interviewed cis-men in Leeds to look into why they may not know much about periods, and use archive footage from the past 80 years to explore how they may have gathered the limited information that they have. Featuring the esteemed author Eleanor Thom of 'Private Parts', we look at the fundamental misunderstanding around periods in society, demonstrating the dangers of a lack of education on a society.
We have used archive footage in a transformative and educational context, limiting the amount used to fully surpass copyright.
In the future, we hope to expand this project to schools, reducing the taboo surrounding menstruation, opening up the conversation about menstruation to all genders. After all, half of the population will have a period in their lifetime, so why are we not talking about it?
