Born in small town America surrounded by corn fields and race tracks, Robert E Ball Jr directed his first film before he was old enough to shave.
Moving to Los Angeles without knowing a living soul, the indefatigably independent Robert has relentlessly pushed his filmwork forward through Hollywood’s booby-trapped trenches capturing international festival nominations, some really nice awards, and a screening at the Centre Pompidou while directing a near gamut of motion pictures, including (in no particular order) music videos, fashion films, a few documentary TV series’, a lot of corporate jobs, short experimental films, the acclaimed documentary, 213 THE GANG PROJECT, and is now in production on the horror-fantasy feature film, THE ONE : HORROR - LOVE - FAITH.
My influences are: 1) The Italian Renaissance and The Baroque, 2) The Industrial Revolution, 3) Hollywood, and 4) Dr Seuss.
To make a good film you take emotion, intellect and passion and mix them together with luck. To make a great film, add inspiration. Adjust for taste.
I have many other thoughts on the art, adventure and business of filmmaking...but let me simply quote Ringo Starr: “You know it don’t come easy.”
