21-22 ALPHA
The Anthropocene: Earth epoch during which the planet’s Sixth mass extinction is underway and the Earth systems are changing, all under the influence of the Human civilization.
21-22 ALPHA offers us a meditative visually-striking journey around the planet. As a flying spirit without boundaries, we experience the world from a new profound perspective, from up in the skies with a surround (360-degree) view, as we discover various evocative anthropocenic environments.
Being the first-released film in 21-22's VR series, 21-22 ALPHA acts as an introductory chapter.

Thierry Loa is a Montreal-based filmmaker and an intermedia artist. Having studied multimedia arts, philosophy, film studies, anthropology and geography, he has been working in various visual and media disciplines, on a diverse and mixed array of projects such as narrative films, interactive cinema, video installations, new media design, and photography. In 2018, he completed his first feature film 20-22 OMEGA (111min) which explores the first humans of the Anthropocene epoch. This film won him the Prix du Jury Étudiant at the 21st RIDM film festival where it world-premiered. He is now working on the sequel project, titled 21-22 - a series of 360VR films offering a profound global look at the state of humankind and nature on Earth. His fields of interest and research include Art, Cinema, Literature, Anthropology, Sociology, Philosophy, Geography, Technology, and Media Theory.
21-22 ALPHA is the first film in the 5-part series of 360VR films being produced by project 21-22. Acting as a prologue to this new project, it gives an introduction to the planet of the anthropocene: the Earth epoch engendered and dominated by humankind. 21-22 is the direct follow-up project to 20-22 which brought the feature symphonic film 20-22 OMEGA. While 20-22 focused on the North American regions and was shot on celluloid film evoking symphonic films of the 1920s, 21-22 is focusing on the emerging continents of Asia, Africa and South America and is adopting 21st century's emerging filmmaking techniques, hence the use of 360 camera and drone.
