20 years of the Historical Museum

In 2023, the Lapa Historical Museum celebrates its two decades of existence. Founded in 2003, the building is a local treasure and has been an important guardian of the historical and cultural heritage of the city of Lapa.

Through this documentary, we aim to emphasize the museum's importance to the city, its people, and the memory of those involved in its foundation.

Situated in the heart of Paraná, the Lapa Historical Museum boasts a curated collection of engravings and artifacts, paying homage to the 26 days of the “Cerco da Lapa”, an event during the Federalist Revolution. The museum recreates the atmosphere of the Cerco, once utilized as the residence of Dr. João Cândido Ferreira and later transformed into an infirmary during the conflict.

The first room stands out, which reproduces the scene of General Carneiro's death, which occurred in 1894. This space showcases the blanket used by the General, Dr. João Cândido's suitcase and the painting "The Death of General Carneiro" by Theodoro de Bonna. The exhibition includes General Carneiro's personal objects, such as his rifle, sword, diary, medals and a handkerchief stained with his blood.
Moreover, the museum houses an array of Republican-era clothing, photographs featuring commanders from both factions during the war, and historical artifacts from the city.
